The Marthoma Church places significant importance to music in our worship. This is very evident through the dedicated songs books, yearly release of the Maramon Convention songs, publication of an official notation book and of course the establishment of the church choir as one of the central organisations of the church. Started in 1969 under the leadership of Mr. P.K. Kurien, the St. Peters Marthoma Church Choir is a dedicated 40-member strong team of individuals.
Over its rich 50 year history the choir has been lucky to be under the leadership of the able hands of Mr. P. J. Abraham, Mr. Joji Mathew Kurien, Mr. Stan Thomas Roy and Mr. Sumith Idicula.
Over and above taking a lead in the weekly Sunday services, the choir also sings for weddings, funerals, Christmas carol service, parish events, special Sundays and other Christian events within and outside the Marthoma denomination. The choir is proficient in Malayalam, English, Hindi and Marathi songs.
Apart from the sermon the only major change in the service are the songs that are sung. The realisation of this accountability to make a difference is what keeps pushing the choir to sing well and to sing prayerfully.
The choir constantly keeps its doors open to new talent and enthusiastic members through the periodic auditions. We are always looking for ways multiply the talents we have been blessed. We strive to continue improving and to never cease singing His praises.
